1. Venue and Date
The first step in the process of hiring a company to cater your wedding is to select a wedding date and reserve your wedding venue. These are both important tasks to complete prior to your search for a caterer, as you will need to check availability and determine travel fees (if applicable.)
2. Guest Count
Most caterers will base the cost of their services on the number of guests you will have at your wedding. Having a rough idea of your guest count will help determine the cost per plate and the number of staff the company will need for your event.
3. Serving Style
Did you know that buffet-style service is often the most affordable option for catering? However, you will likely have a variety of serving styles to choose from such as family-style, food stations, and plated meals.
4. Full Service
Does your venue require your caterer to wash dishes, sweep, mop, and empty trash at the end of your event? If so, you will want to ensure that you are only looking into full-service caterers. Venues like Gallery 1874 require caterers to simply wash any of our dishes that are used, clean the kitchen, and take out the trash from the event. However, many venues may also require your caterer to set up floor plans, in addition, to tearing down tables, chairs, and linens at the conclusion of your gathering.
5. Food and Beverage
Does your wedding venue require that you use a specific list of caters from their preferred vendor’s list? If so, you may be tied to using the catering companies that they have a relationship with. While a list of qualified caterers is helpful, you may be restricted to certain cuisines, price points, menu options.
If you are able to choose your own caterer without restrictions, we recommend using sites like TheKnot.com and WeddingWire.com to select caterers based on location and price.
You will also need to determine if your venue takes care of bar-service in-house, or if you
At Gallery 1874, we require professionally insured caterers. With that in mind, your options are limitless. You can choose from our list of favorites, or do some exploring of your own. Gallery 1874 also takes care of bar service in house, so you do not have to worry about hiring bartenders or sourcing alcohol for your event.
